The Necessary Secret
Journal Entry: Wed Jun 25, 2008, 6:48 PM
"There are things I would like to tell you.
These are complicated times.
We have become solitary and distrustful. Of our brothers, of our kings, and of our gods. We seek comfort in what are merely rumors of truth, logical yarns of others who say they have seen such things for themselves. But when our gods had failed us, these men remained; and our kings trusted them. And when our kings failed us, they remained still; giving us the means to bandage our wounds, navigate the world and most prolifically now, the means to entertain us.
But these men of wisdom, while wise and fraught with reason, have befallen the same corruption of our gods and our kings. We, willing and unknowingly, abide by the confused banter of science led astray. It is now more profitable to treat than it is to cure, it is now more cost effective to deny than to change. Our health, our environment and our progress; suffers at the last bastions of trust we hold in the infinite wisdom of science, which has since been bought into by wicked people indeed.
So you see, my brothers and my sisters, when I might try to speak of new frontiers and reason behind the creeping madness we now face; I am rebuked carelessly by those still entrusted to a medium of reason which has been bargained into misinformation and blindness. I can offer you no proof of my tales beyond the shared experiences of hundreds of others; for these things of which I speak improve no profit margin.
It is the corruption of man that leaves us desperate for answers and finding none, taking up our would-be weapons and our hopeful torches to shed light upon the shadows of this new age; the mysteries of the half-seen men and the presence that lingers beyond flesh. Privateers of truth, we step deeper into uncharted waters that our society has chosen to avoid.
But there is something more at play. As we cross into these new lands, we are not met with the serenity sprawling fields of open frontier. As those on this forum of the curious have encountered, and others as well, there are manners of creature and natives which we have unsettled in our cravings for answers.
There are things I would like to tell you, but cannot.
For the innumerous that have had close encounters with a mystery, our orchestrated society has deemed such subject matter inappropriate. Without the consent of science, the unknown has been decommissioned as a frontier for exploration and instead regulated to the land of fiction and religion. You cannot hope to count the number of men, women and children who have seen things that are impossible to explain in their knowledge of the world; for most of them have already dismissed the incidents as figments of their imagination or signs from their deity of choice.
But there are those of you who browse these boards seeking confirmation. There are, in fact, many who have seen such things and cannot wish them away. The events now unfold with such frequency and such ferocity, that slowly; man is less quick to deny things beyond the limits of our typical understanding. And as the majority basks in the forgetful bliss of our bickering scientists, dramatized news and billion dollar industries of distraction; those yearning for answers can only hope to find those like themselves.
It is a shame that many of those who are briefly touched by truth fall into the expected treatment of psychological medications, for these doctors are funded by pharmacies as much as they are trying to cure disease they do not understand. Like leeches to treat a fever, your relief comes only from treating the symptoms; this light headedness is not a cure so much as it is blood loss. Worse are the truth touched who seek to fill in the blanks themselves, and they do so feverishly; acting as if the inconsistencies of religion and society will be solved if they simply drop in the role of reptiles or a second coming of a missing messiah. Many have fallen prey to these devious misinterpretations, and so too does Anonymous fight one form of these misguided brethren looking for deeper meaning in fabricated systems of the truth beyond your eyes.
In reality, the closer one comes to the truth; the more dangerous the dance becomes. Alchemists of old knew this, and many have gone mad or simply vanished after having found the truth behind the sky. In these times, we are privileged; for those with knowledge once sacred are no longer hunted down like dogs. But we are still haunted. Haunted by the knowledge itself, as well as those forces which would ensure the deepest secrets remain such.
The first person whom I ever met who seemed to be aware of these things was a kind soul. She taught me simple things, the whispering of rituals and methods handed down from wizards to psychics and all manner of madmen's label from times before Christ. Simple things that would open my eyes, in time; but not before she became endangered for what she knew, and like so many, she fled friends and family in order to protect them from what followed her. I could not understand then, but I understand well now.
We draw closer to the heart of this mystery. This great unfolding, inevitable, seems close at hand. Many would doubt my sincerity for my lack of evidence, and I would gesture to those around us who have felt and seen and heard echoes of the same. Others would doubt the extent of my experience, for some things it seems man simply shouldn't know and live. But the reason that I live, is because I do not speak the full gravity of what I have witnessed. It is with heavy heart and tied hands that I do not tell you the specifics of the whispers beneath the floor and the shuffling behind the walls; for I am watched as you are watched. And while we all live and die beneath watchful eyes, it is the jeopardy of their plans which threatens them; and in turn threatens me. To do anything more but prepare you subtly and gracefully would surely bring them down upon my head.
Is it selfish then, that I have spared my sanity and mortality; while perhaps damning all of yours? I've heard such claims before. I've heard my quiet enigmatic mentions of a truth unspoken considered arrogant and pretentious; but these are all misconceptions of quick thirst become spite over the withholding of drink. I do not say and do these things to taunt you, nor to rob you of brief tastes of curiosity. If anything, this slow trickle of confirmation and history is to prepare you; to initiate you slowly to the sensation of the sea lest you drown or be swept away. Without the confirmation of our questionably funded scientists, the proof you seek will be that you obtain when you have seen it with your own eyes.
There are things I would like to tell you, but I would hope to show you instead.
So that you might see when the light shines brightest, and not be caught blind like all the rest." - Scribe Of Unspoken Lore

"S.O.U.L. Seeker here. Here are the emails we've exchanged.
1) What, in detail, is the Society of Unseen Light?
The Society of Unseen Light is, as implied by the name, a group of people with the common bond of knowledge. Our members consist of those who have experienced the light first hand. Though we understand a web of common truths, we each act individually with a different path and a common goal. There is no shared end, so much as there is unity.
2) Who are you?
I am a man.
3) What is your relation to the Society?
I am an advocate of the society, a member promoting a public face.
4) What was your post?
Scribe. It was my part to share portions of the necessary secret with the inexperienced.
5) Why did you abandon it?
It was a difficult task with little incentive. Those who are meant to find the light, tend to do so naturally. Piecemeal offerings of wisdom have done little to pave the way for those with potential to discover the truths behind the surface. Besides my poor results, there are other scribes. Even if I resign my task, the mechanisms in place will see to it that the light continues to filter into view."
"S.O.U.L. Seeker:
Is there any purpose to the society, and how did it come to be? Certainly like individuals will group together, but there is always a firm, singular force at the beginning of all things. Why do you feel that your results were poor? Out of curiosity, what else is there to know about this necessary secret?
Also, what can you tell me about The Light, itself? Do you call it that for the standard literature-based meaning? How have your views changed since you've come across it? Did it appear to you suddenly or have you always seen it?
Actually, I'm assuming. Do you see it at all?
And even though I know that it's a bit of a silly question, Are you running a mind game on me for the lulz?
Him:
The purpose is the exchange of knowledge and preparedness. It came to be as an agreement between several founding members who believed that the message of the experience of the light was becoming prevalent enough that both newly effected as well as legacy knowledge bearers should have a community, of sorts, to connect with.
I have seen my results were poor. Through my experiences with several online communities as well as attempts to seed information into my community, appealing to those who have not encountered the light themselves is a difficult task. Modern man is not receptive to ideas which challenge conventional wisdom.
The Society is divided on the matter of the so called Necessary Secret which I transcribed into 7chan's /x/. Humanity is faced with a great inevitability. The specifics and warning of this event need not be a secret, and yet such information may change the way many would choose to live their lives. However, certain details are precious. As the end game nears, the commodity of information is increasingly valuable; certain information grows dangerous to hold and even more so to share as individuals as well as groups would seek as much preparation as possible for their own well being.
The Light is a poetic phrase, at best. What it is, has many names. Given that it encapsulates what some would refer to as good, evil, order and chaos; Light may be confusing as it also contains elements which are indeed very Dark. But those who have explored beyond the surface tend to agree that what they see lives and breathes with an illumination beyond that of the waking world.
I saw the light early in my life. Young enough that I incorporate it into my philosophies without having to carve out old beliefs, yet still old enough that I had doubts. The existence of the Society, and the stories that parallel my own have helped me doubt less.
There is much to consider when a series of seemingly strange and unrelated events come together in a single epiphany of clarity, but it was the pursuit of why which brought about my most direct encounters with the light. I see all too often those who have similiar strange events, and they allow them to drop as anomalies or things unexplainable. The light comes to only those who seek it, and those it seeks.
It is likened to a craft, in that no person becomes adept without following a method towards it; unless they are naturally predisposed of course.
>>And even though I know that it's a bit of a silly question, Are you running a mind game on me for the lulz?
Traces and members of the society have been online since well before the first advocacy into /x/.
The miserable truth is that few have questions to ask. Most have already made up their minds with the answers before ever exchanging words."
"S.O.U.L. Seeker:
What is the Society preparing for? As I was reading your previous email, I was reminded of the book "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke. If you haven't read it, toward the end, the last generation of humans sort of... psychically meld into a single organism. The bodies of the children became more along the lines of individual muscle fibers that would flex in unison. In the end, the new organism absorbed the mass of the earth, then left.
I don't think that I've seen what you describe. I've felt it's pulse, and been aware of it's heat and scent, but never in a direct way. It's as if the world stretches and gives every time I try to poke a hole through to the other side. I've tried to rationalize it and reduce everything I understand to its simplest form only to come up with a sum that does not equal the whole.
An anon wrote that he emailed you, and that you responded by saying that this was a test. Why did you say that to them, but tell me all of this? You also mentioned that a person could learn through following a method, unless they're naturally predisposed. What is this method, or is there more than one?
I guess that my last question for now would be "If you could stop seeing the Light, would you?"
Him:
The society is preparing for the true consequences of the subject of conjecture those on the /x/ board have dubbed the barrier. The story concerning the next step in human evolution is as popular as it is ancient. Religious beliefs stemming from times well before the advent of Christ speak of ascension to higher states of being, with various ambiguous terms as to exactly that those states may be. While the specific areas of expertise of different society members varies from person to person, there are several who have had the common vision of what we believe is soon to occur. The specific details concerning this event and the time frame surrounding it are certainly part of that priceless information which was previously mentioned. In the past, details have been exchanged to public mediums which were met with dangerous repercussions. It has been agreed upon within the Society's current members that these dangerous details are not to be shared, lest they compromise the safety of the messenger and possibly the Society as a whole.
On the subject of the light, it is important to know that "the light" is ever present. Whether or not a person is conscious of its existence, all things live within its influence at all times. The way in which it effects both living and inanimate objects is a vast tapestry of complexity which is indeed arduous to attempt to unravel without the cooperation of modern science to help analyze and dissect its many parts. What I can share with you in confidence is the common agreement from the society members that all living things are capable of detecting "the light" in one form or another. Whether or not they ever do is again a part of that path versus born inclination effect. The distinction between having actually seen "the light" and having felt it in other ways is mostly that of how directly a person has interacted with it. There are faculties of the brain and functions of the body which are more attuned to feeling its influence than others, these sensations are often referred to as ripples on the surface. Contrarily, to see the light is to have penetrated the surface and interacted directly with that lies beneath.
Whether the anon misspoke or you misinterpreted, I never claimed to be conducting any tests. An anon did email this address testing to confirm the automated response. I asked if the results of his test were satisfactory, to which he replied yes. And that was the end of that conversation. You, on the contrary, have asked questions; and so you receive answers.
There is more than one method in attuning one self to the light. It is a destination, so to speak, and there are many ways to get there. The members of the society have some similiar and some very different stories of how they became in touch with the light, proving to us that there is clearly more than one way to go about achieving "results".
As for whether or not I would choose to stop seeing the Light.
I have not seen the light directly in some years. This is partially the consequences of foolish actions on my part, but primarily from choice. The life submerged in light is quite the double sided blade. While there is a wealth of wisdom to be found by interacting with the light, so too is there a disconnection from one's peers. The Light is very much a sea of uncharted waters. You cannot hope to speak with your family and friends, expecting them to understand your voyages into the unknown. Knowledge of the Light can leave one feeling empty or jaded, unsatisfied with the "unenlightened" company they keep on this side; but a community of the understanding is part of the purpose of the Society.
While it is a common phrase tossed around the likes of /x/, it is very true indeed that what has been seen cannot be unseen. Though I have not seen the light directly for an extended period of time, I see how it effects my life and directs the course of human events. It is there whether or not I choose to pursue it; once you experience the light directly there is no turning back, no more convincing yourself that the long strings of coincidental events are your imagination.
It is a puzzle. If you have never seen the solution, then you may never discover how the pieces fit; you may reject patterns that seem illogical or out of place. But if you have seen the solution, then you are compelled towards it. The patterns make sense, the shapes are clear, the pieces lock together inescapably.
A better question would be to ask, do I wish I had never seen it? And the answer to that would be difficult. Some people are compelled by truth. Others by happiness. While they are not mutually exclusive ends, their paths can diverse wildly."
"S.O.U.L. Seeker:
You're right. I misread what the anon had written.
How did you penetrate the surface? Rather, what were the circumstances of the first time you saw the light? I don't hide the fact that I want to be able to see it, but I simply don't know how to start. If I wanted to go to a coffee shop that I knew to be 20 minutes from my house, the desire and a vague idea are not enough to discern direction, route, or mode of transportation that 20 minutes is measured by. I have no map to plot my course. How would I go about finding my bearings?
Heh, or is it like playing a game of Battleship with an infinitely large board?
You have probably been able to deduce from my emails that I am an intensely curious individual, and I realize that I've asked a good bit of you while giving little in return. I greatly appreciate you for sharing your information with me.
So, Thank you.
Him:
I was unusually fortunate, compared to my peers.
The most common circumstances concerning first encounters seem to revolve around times of severe trauma with the majority of the present members of the Society. The death of a family member, a personal near death experience, one's place in life devastated by other means; all considered the 'common trigger' which began a new path of perspective. It has been described to me as having a spiritual need of the question "Why", as opposed to a merely curious or hobbyist answer seeker. Another member of the Society has described his "path" initiated by "the first time in his life that philosophy and the truth ever truly mattered".
I did not have what is often referred to as "the break point". I suppose you could say that I was naturally predisposed to the question. A relatively unpleasant family life, the frequent moves of a military family lending me perspective to many different economic brackets and nationalities; I was inclined even in grade school to wonder why society, religion and politics operated the way they did and what had driven humanity throughout the evolution of civilization. When religion, family, friends and teachers could not satisfactorily answer my questions, I was inclined to experiment with the eastern philosophies of looking within and directed myself towards various styles of meditation.
My first experience came from this. I posed my questions to the connectivity I found within meditation, and it answered. Rather forcefully, at that. This was followed by a.. curious encounter with what I can only relate to in common terms as a 'sentient dream'. I experienced for the term of several years a reoccurring lucid dream with a single persistent 'character' who guided me with further methods to train my abilities as well as dispensing wisdom. It was only later in life that I discovered much of this dream administered information to be verifiable in reference books, and that my pattern of dreaming was entirely unheard of by the psychological sciences. So you see, my path began unusually as a self initiated endeavor and was welcomed with a guide. Later, more vivid encounters with the light would unite me with the Society as well as drive me away from direct contact from the Light.
The wisdom the light provides is a sometimes very bitter pill. It was something I couldn't handle in my life then. I am still regaining the necessary strength to endure it directly once again.
And your thanks are a welcome sentiment."
